Among the war tools of Urartu, shields are an important group in terms of reflecting the point where bronze/mine workmanship came to. Rather, there was probably a ceremonial use of shields decorated with relief figures in the Urartu temple/sanctuary. Samples ranging in diameter from 70 to 100 cm had a convex shape. They were probably hanging on temple façades or some other special buildings. They have lion, bull, god and war descriptions. The head of a lion, was placed in the middle of a shield, found out in Ayanis is a striking example.
